On Arrival







 

  Welcome to Shaw AFB!  The following information will make your arrival on base just a little less traumatic.

Getting here:   Shaw AFB is located in Sumter SC, on U.S. Highway 76/378.  It is easily accessible from Interstate 20 or Interstate 95.
   If you fly into Columbia, SC, vehicle operations will dispatch a taxi to pick you up from the airport, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  To insure the taxi is there when you arrive, insure you contact Vehicle dispatch at (803) 668-3846 or 1-800-368-4474 24 hours in advance.  If you arrive without making transportation arrangements, and you wait until you arrive to make arrangements, you will be placed on the next scheduled shuttle.

In-Processing:  If you arrive during normal duty hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., please proceed directly to the military personnel flight customer service counter in the Support Center on Shaw Drive to begin your in-processing.  If you have not received the name of a sponsor, or are unable to reach them, call the INTRO office at (803) 668-3882 or DSN 965-3882 for assistance
   If you arrive on base after 4:30, proceed directly to the Carolina Inns Billeting office, located on Myers Street.  They will assist you in obtaining temporary quarters, or help you contact your sponsor, or someone in your unit.

Billeting: Shaw's hotel needs are handled by the Carolina Pines Inn, an award winning operation located on Myers Street next to the Officers Club.  Carolina Pines provides temporary housing for members on temporary duty assignment and permanent change of station orders, for families, and depending on space available, for visitors of active-duty members.  There are no unaccompanied officer quarters available.
   The lodging facility consists of a 40-unit temporary lodging facility (TLF) to house PCS families.  These consist of a full kitchen with adjoining living room, full bath and a separate bedroom.
