Educational opportunities abound at Shaw AFB and in
Sumter. The Sumter Public school system offers four high schools, four middle
schools and sixteen elementary schools, with a combined total current enrollment of more
than 21,000 students.
Augmenting the fine public school system are seven private schools
with a total enrollment of more than 4,000 students.
In addition, Shaw AFB and the local community
offer a number of Secondary and Post-Secondary Institutions.
University of South Carolina
Offering both a main campus in Columbia, SC as well as a Sumter
campus, it offers a wide variety of programs through the graduate studies level. The
Sumter Campus offers associate of science and associate of arts degrees, a bachelor of
science in business administration, a bachelor of interdisciplinary studies, and a masters
of science in engineering.
Morris College
Operated by the South Carolina Baptist Educational and
Missionary State Convention, Morris College is an historically black,
coeducational liberal arts college offering a range of bachelors degree programs.
Central Carolina Technical College
A post-secondary, two-year institution, it offers college credit
programs in business, industrial, and engineering technology, and in health and human
services. The on-base campus offers technical/occupational and
developmental/refresher courses.
Saint Leo College
Offered through the Education Services Flight on Shaw AFB, St. Leo's
offers an associate of arts degree and Bachelor of arts degrees in human resource
management administration and in criminology. Additionally, they offer an enrichment
program in computer science information systems.
Troy State University
Also offered through the Education Services Flight, Troy State offers
a masters degree in human resource management and public administration.
Florence Darlington Technical College
Offered on-base, they offer an FAA-certified associate degree in
aircraft maintenance technology.
Clemson University
Offers courses on-base for individuals interested in teacher
